Many goji products on the market today are labelled "fresh-locked", but not all of them meet the standard. Here's a simple test anyone can do at home in a few minutes.
Fresh goji berries have a very thin, natural protective layer on their skin. With genuine fresh-locked goji, this layer stays intact throughout processing – it doesn't go through the high-temperature or chemical treatments some traditional processing methods use to strip the skin.
Because the layer stays intact, the natural colour compounds and sugars inside the berry stay inside, rather than dissolving quickly into the water when soaked.
What to look for:
This is only a simple reference test at home, not a substitute for an official lab test report. To be certain, choose products with a clear test report and food safety declaration, and feel free to ask the seller to provide these when needed.
